Case 1. Immediate Molar Implant

  1. At the initial consultation an X-ray was taken, and the tooth was investigated to see if there was any chance a root canal treatment could be completed to salvage the tooth. For this case, unfortunately a large fracture was discovered and the tooth needed to be extracted. The patient decided an implant would be his preferred option for replacing the tooth as it would be a non-removable option (compared to a denture), long lasting & would require zero drilling of the neighbouring teeth (bridge) to be completed.

2. The patient returned for the extraction of the tooth, with a view to placing an implant straight away. The reasoning behind this being it would avoid the need for additional surgeries and possible grafting procedures and provided the quickest route to having his tooth replaced.

At his implant surgery appointment with Dr Dilan, the tooth was divided and precisely drilled through to create a channel for where the implant would be placed & an xray taken to confirm the angle at which the implant would be placed. After verifying the position, began the delicate process of surgically extracting the remaining tooth roots with extreme care to ensure as much of the bone between the roots is preserved to retain the implant.

3. Once the roots were fully removed, the titanium implant was placed and gently screwed securely into the preserved area of bone. Stitches were placed to pull the tissues together and a final xray confirming correct positioning of the implant taken. The appointment was completed within a 1hr 30min time span and the patient was happy to have both the painful tooth removed and his implant placed.

4. After allowing the implant to fuse to the jaw bone over a 2 month period, the implant was uncovered and a small metal healing abutment fastened into it to help shape the gum to receive an implant crown.

5. Impressions and scans of the implant are sent to the dental laboratory for processing and soon after the implant crown is ready to be fitted and chewed upon!
