Aims
Like many things in life, our teeth are subject to wear and tear….or shall we say-“weathering”. For this gentleman, the decision to embark upon treatment came when his upper lateral incisor fractured during eating.
The goal in this case was to hopefully avoid any further tooth fractures and restore the upper lateral as best as possible, and in addition; to have a predictable long-term result. Several other fractures were detected during our examination, as well as infections at the base of some of the teeth which would require root canal treatment to alleviate.
Treatment & Result
After removal of the existing restorations and decay, a crown lengthening surgery was completed to ensure the final ceramic crowns were fitting correctly around the natural teeth beneath. (A step-by-step explanation can be viewed in the gallery below)
An important take-home is the amount of decay which is not apparent in this case beneath his existing work without X-rays.
As we proceeded through treatment, so did our goals-given we were treating numerous teeth and would have full control over the final colouration and shape- we decided to rejuvenate his smile further through the use of professional whitening before the final crowns were fitted. After several visits over the course of 2 months, treatment was a success! The patient has a robust, smile which is in keeping with his natural lower teeth.
